Scott finding his form on and off the course
Â
It was hard to know whether the first round of the Scottish Open was a golf tournament or a retro, psychedelic fashion show. The leader, Richard Green, was colourful only in name, but the rest of Loch Lomond seemed to be a riot of bright young things.
No wonder Serbian tennis star Ana Ivanovic had on the big Jackie O shades. It was the only way to keep out the dazzle. Either that or she was trying to get round Loch Lomond incognito. No chance. If you turn up to watch your new boyfriend, Adam Scott, play golf at a big tournament you will attract a bit of the long lens.
The photographers were all over Ivanovic, who had chosen a silver and black striped mac for the occasion. Scott, who was photographed with Kate Hudson in January, split up with his long-term girlfriend last year and suffered a chronic loss of form. He dropped from No.3 to 44 in the world.
Thursday’s 66 left Scott two behind Green and suggested that the younger Australian, who will turn 29 on the first day of next week’s Open, had found something on and off the course. There were signs of a return to form at last month’s US Open.
Some of Scott’s problems have been technical and physical, but others have appeared to be mental. “Everyone knows what has gone on in my life,” he said. “I’m not saying it had a direct impact on me playing poorly at the start of the year, but it’s nice to be in a good frame of mind in all areas of life.”
For the benefit of non-Australians, last year Scott split up with Marie Kojzar, broke his little finger in a car door, suffered tonsillitis and could not hit his hat. He turned up at one event and wondered what he was doing.
Looking back before this year’s Masters, he said: “I just didn’t want to be there. As much as I tried, it was like fighting my own mind. My game was terrible. I hadn’t practised. I was sorting things [the relationship] out. I felt crap.”
Scott must have felt he was jinxed when he was forced to pull out of the Australian Open in December after dislocating a kneecap in a surfing accident; his home championship and he could not even make it on to the first tee.
It seemed a long time since he had been heading for the top of the golf world and was listed in Maria Sharapova’s top 10 of doubles partners, “night match please”. Asked what was the lowest he had been Scott said: “I’ve had my moments. I haven’t played well since Qatar [in January]. I tried to stay positive. I really believed I was working on the right stuff. It’s been frustrating.
Eric Lodwick is the brother of hipster Web millionaire Jakob Lodwick. He’s also now Lyle Lodwick, at least as far as his modeling career goes. Is it fair to tie the Topshop poster boy to his notorious fameball brother?
Perhaps not, if only because Lyle (née Eric) has been more successful in his overshares. His brother uploads videos of scary knife play and intimate moments to the video website he started, while Lyle runs naked through a forest in a Sigur Rós video, according to New York’s The Cut. And we haven’t heard anything about Lyle turning up topless at business mixers.
Then again, in Lyle’s line of work, that would actually be appropriate. When you’re prancing about for the likes of Burberry and Lanvin, you’re moving beyond fameballing and toward outright stardom. Big brother could probably learn something from his example
